Privacy Policy
An original browser role-playing game by Gina Makes, a brand of Gina Makes LLC (Altoona, Iowa).
Your saves and privacy
- On your device: your save is kept in your browser's storage. You can download a backup from the journal.
- Online saves (optional): if you sign in with Google, Google Firebase (our sign-in and database provider) keeps your Google account ID and email address, and we store your save file, what you bought (Remove ads, any packs and your gem balance) and any authentication code you entered. We use these only to sign you in, sync your progress across devices and honor your purchases. This device also remembers what you bought, so it still works offline. You can sign out at any time.
- Feedback (optional): if you fill in the Send feedback form, your answers are stored in our Google Firebase database with basic game details (game day, generation, total play time, difficulty, touch screen or keyboard, screen size, game version, browser and system type such as “Safari on iOS”, whether the game is installed or in a browser tab, online or offline, device language, and your accessibility, sound and motion settings), any screenshot you choose to add (a picture of the game screen or one you pick from your device, made smaller before sending) and, if you are signed in, your account ID. We use them only to improve the game. Please don’t write personal details in the form or add pictures that show them. If you are offline, your answers wait on your device until the game is next online.
- Anonymous sponsors (18 and older): if you sponsor anonymously, Stripe gives us your name, email and payment ID for the payment and our records only. The game shows only “A friend of Hearthvale”, never your name.
- Sponsor applications (18 and older): if you apply to sponsor the game, we store your name or business name, your card line, website, type of business, start date, your name, your email, your picture and, if you are signed in, your account ID in our Google Firebase database. We use them only to review and show your sponsorship, to email you about it, and for our business records. Your payment is handled by Stripe. Applicants must be 18 or older.
- Herald notices (18 and older): if you order a notice (a birthday or other shout-out), we store the kind of notice, the name and message for it, its date, your name, your email and, if you are signed in, your account ID in our Firebase database, only to review the notice, match it to your Stripe payment and contact you about it. Stripe also gives us your name, email and payment ID. The notice itself (a first name, a last initial and a short message) is shown to everyone who plays on that day.
- Purchases: Stripe processes payments for Remove ads, packs, gems and tips. Remove ads, packs and gems are sold through Stripe’s merchant-of-record service (Link), which collects and pays any sales tax, so your receipt comes from Link. Prices already include sales tax. We never see or store your card number. For each purchase we keep your account ID, email and Stripe payment ID, so we can handle refunds and keep our business records. If you pay without being signed in, we keep the payment ID and email so we can unlock your purchase by hand.
- No analytics or ad trackers: we do not put analytics or advertising-tracking tools in the game. Once a week we add up totals from the data described here (for example, how many accounts exist, how many online saves were made, and how many of each item sold) for our own records. These are counts only, with no names or emails, and nothing is tracked beyond what is listed on this page. The services that run it still receive basic technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to do their job: GitHub Pages (hosting), Google Fonts (lettering), Google Firebase (sign-in and saves), Stripe (checkout) and ginamakesbread.dev (the list of current deals).
- Age 13 and up: signing in, online saves and purchases are only for players 13 and older who have their own Google account. Please do not sign in if you are under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we delete it and its data.
- Sponsored links: if you tap a Sponsored link, the shop's affiliate network (Awin) may set a cookie on its own site to credit the referral.
- Spam protection: to keep bots out of our online services (saves, purchases, feedback and applications), the game uses Google reCAPTCHA through Firebase App Check. Google may collect information about your device and browser to tell people from bots. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms apply.
Delete your online save: open the journal and tap Delete online save. This removes your save file from our database and signs you out. Your Google sign-in, everything you bought (Remove ads, packs and gems), and the save on this device all stay.
Delete your account or get a copy of your data: email hello@ginamakesbread.dev from the email on your account. We delete your sign-in account and saved data within 30 days. Purchase records are kept as long as the law requires for tax and accounting. Deleting your account ends your license (see What you get when you pay): Remove ads, your packs and any unspent gems end for that account and cannot be moved to another account. Deleting only your online save (above) keeps them.
The age answer on your device
The game is for ages 13 and up. The first time something costs real money or leaves the game, it asks one question: are you 18 or older? We keep only that answer, and only on your device (never a birthdate). You can change it any time in the Pause menu.
For the payment and external-link guidance, see Players under 18.
